Artist Statement

Through my practice I explore the role and potential of the image to operate as a site of mnemonic return. Here the visual operates as a point of entry for engagement with deep memory, related to both individual and collectively held ideas of place, belonging and subjectivity. Documentary surrealism, where the visual occupies a threshold space between factual and fictional representation is important within my work. This approach allows for the integration of both representational and poetic approaches to image-making, enabling the creative exploration and re-representation of partial, forgotten or silenced narratives. The use of new media technologies including, AI, VR, Video Projection Mapping and 3D imaging, are important elements within current studio practice and research. I explore threshold spaces, including those between the real and imaginal, past and future memory. Here the potential of new media to extend, enhance and alter perception is central.
