Kilkeedy A Space Between (2015)

This was community based project based in the downland of Kilkeedy in County Clare. Over a period of six-months I facilitated a series of workshops at Tubber Hall. Beginning with the work of American photographer Dorothea Lange in County Clare in 1954, we explored ideas of place, of identity and how the photograph can serve to preserve both individual and collective ideas of what memory, as it relates to the local can mean. Each member of the group developed his or her own way of using the photograph to navigate, discovering how remembering can become a journey through place, prompted by the visual trigger of the image to enable mnemonic return. The townland of Kilkeedy was the site of departure, for walking the land, sharing stories and discovering the potential of the photographic to become a shared space of recollection.

The project was supported by a Creating Space Grant from The Clare County Arts Office (2015), which enabled the production of a local exhibition of participants work. This was also shown later at Glór Ennis, and The Courthouse Gallery Ennistymon. An accompanying catalogue includes extract from audio interviews recorded with members of the group.
