Village People (2006)

These images were gathered from a reconstructed Irish village. My interest was in capturing the manifest uncanny and abjectness of what initially appeared as cheap cultural cliché and kitch. A playful interpretation of ‘stage Irishness’ on closer examination revealed darker undercurrents, suggesting perhaps a more authentic experience of rural Irish life.

Waterford Healing Arts Trust (2007)

In July 2007 I was short-listed to make a proposal for artworks for the Hermatology and Oncology Ward of Waterford Regional Hospital. Taking the theme of Light and Space, I drew up a proposal for five works to be situated in different locations throughout the ward. My interest was also in exploring media such as fiberoptics and new printing techniques to push the aesthetic and technical possibilites of each piece. The works here comprise the visual part of the overall proposal. The plan was considered too ambitious and was not chosen. I was however shortlisted to submit a proposal for a second project in the hospital which I am currently working on.

Transformation (2001-03)

Jungian psychoanalsis has been the starting point and ongoing inspiration for many drawings and mixed-media objects, which explore creativity and artmaking as process. images here are related to the Jungian concept of the collective unconconscious and the archetypes. mythology, symbolism, expressive art therapy, modern shamanism were sources of inspiration for many of these works.
